James Margolis, M.D. , F.A.C.C.
Dr. Margolis, an internationally recognized cardiologist with expertise in the treatment coronary artery disease, has been with MICC since 1999. Trained originally in Switzerland by Professor Andreas Gruentzig, the inventor of coronary angioplasty, Dr. Margolis pioneered angioplasty in the southeastern United States. Since his first procedure, in 1978, Margolis has performed more than 15,000 PCI procedures. As new angioplasty devices became available, Dr. Margolis remained at the forefront of the field. His research during the past 21 years has included evaluation of more than fifty new angioplasty products. He was a world leader in the development of Excimer laser angioplasty, and still has the world’s largest coronary artery experience with this procedure. He has specialized in the management of complex coronary artery problems, especially in patients who have been rejected by others. Dr. Margolis directed angioplasty demonstration courses in Miami from 1982 to 1999 and in Snowmass Village, Colorado, since 1985. Over the years cardiologists have attended these courses from all 50 states and from five continents. In the past, Dr. Margolis did heart disease research with the Framingham Heart Study, was Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Duke University, and is a past president of the American Heart Association of Greater Miami. He lectures extensively throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and the Far East.
