Our Difference
The physicians at MICC are among the most experienced and well-respected in the region and the majority of our
physicians are double boarded, and in some cases triple boarded. Our doctors have over 400 years of combined
experience. As a result of their extensive experience and dedication to providing the highest quality
cardiovascular
care, they proudly hold an excellent reputation both locally and internationally. |
Comprised of 18 Cardiologists, two Nurse Practitioners, and two Physician Assistants, MICC is one of the largest
and busiest cardiology practices in the state of Florida. We perform more than 4,000 diagnostic and interventional
cardiac procedures each year, including cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, stent procedures, electrophysiologic
studies, device implantation (pacemakers and defibrillators), valvuloplasties and vascular procedures.
Our physicians are among the most qualified and knowledgeable in their field, performing a combined 50,000
procedures. Research proves that experienced doctors, having performed more procedures, directly correlate to better
patient outcomes and reduced complications. Our doctors are willing and able to accept the most complex of cases
that less experienced cardiologists turn down. These difficult cases otherwise would be sent for open-heart surgery,
thereby increasing the chance for complications and morbidity. |
An advantage of being one of the largest cardiology groups in the state is our multicultural medical team. Coming
from all around the world, our physicians speak six languages and bring diverse skills and experiences.
Our patients are just as diverse as our staff and they are able to choose a physician based on personal preference.
Whether they prefer a male or female doctor, or a certain age range or language preference, we are able
to accommodate their request. |
Several doctors at MICC have been instrumental pioneers in the introduction of many new procedures to correct or repair cardiac and vascular conditions. Below are a few examples of the caliber of our physicians.
Dr. Kevin Coy was the first physician in Florida to perform Alcohol Septal Ablation for Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy. He was also the first cardiologist in the area to implant pacemakers and defibrillators.
Dr. James Margolis trained under Dr. Andreas Gruentzig, the inventor of coronary angioplasty, a procedure that
revolutionized the treatment of coronary artery disease. Dr. Margolis pioneered the procedure in the South Eastern United States.
Under Dr. Richard Elias' leadership, Miami Heart Institute physicians were among the first to treat vascular disease with aspirin and to perform double internal mammary implant bypass surgery. They pioneered the use of nitroglycerin
in acute heart attacks and the use of nitroglycerine ointment in the treatment of angina. |
